More details!

Hello Deqlans Army!
As you can imagine we have been celebrating since 1230 on Thursday !
I have SO much news to tell you from over the past fews days so will do it in installments !

So lets rewind a little, Thursday , 8 November ,dawned a day i will never forget
We brought the sedative medicine home with us to try and give to Deqlan before we left for the hospital so he could be asleep by the time we got there, and could start with the scan! Well, Deqlan decided he was not going to drink the awful tasting sedative, no matter how hard we tried. We arrived at Nuclear Medicine at 9am and all could see our soldier was still wide awake! so we walked and we sang and we walked and tried to get more sedative in - and each time he fell asleep and we laid him down on the table he woke up! Eventually after 1 and a half hours, Nanna got our soldier fast asleep with the combination of a few more mls of the sedative and we started just after 1030am. As you can imagine the nerves and adrenalin where pumpin non stop - Mark and I asked every possible question, looked at every possible screen, tried to decifer every scan or static dots that appear on the screan of the MIBG scan - and eventually we just let go and let God and I spent the hour praying and hoping and praying and hoping.

All at Nuclear Medicine and radiology knew how long we had been waiting for these scan results ...we went down stairs for a bite to eat and 20 minutes later we got the call to collect the scans, Mark and I walked very fast to go and collect them while Nanna and Meggy watched our sleeping soldier.

Happy faces greeted us as we collected the scans and words of Good Luck and encouragement ...

We walked back towards the cafe and and turned the corner of the aisle, we stopped and Mark opened the envelope - we just couldnt wait anymore - the only words i saw where DAAR IS GEEN and I burst into tears - for our overseas friends this means THERE IS NO - so i didnt even know what followed next but i knew in my heart what it would say

IT SAID THERE ARE NO AREAS THAT LIT UP ON THE MIBG SCAN - NO AREAS THAT ABSORBED THE RADIOACTIVE ISOTOPE AND EVERY SINGLE METASTATIC AREA WAS CLEAR AND EVEN THE PRIMARY TUMOR ON THE ADRENAL GLAND WAS NOT LIGHTING UP - IN CONCLUSION, THE COMPLETE PICTURE IS A TOTAL IMPROVEMENT FROM THE FIRST MIBG SCANS DONE ON 31 MAY 2007

Well there where Mark and I hugging outside someones hospital room - i cried and sobbed and cried and shouted THANK YOU LORD THANK YOU MY JESUS THANK YOU LORD over and over and over

Mark told me to get myself calm as Nanna and Meggy wouldve thought something was wrong if we walked towards then crying uncontrollably

As we came around the corner I smiled at them and they then knew the news was good, but the words that followed led them both into uncontolable crying - THERE IS NOTHING LEFT NOTHING LIT UP - I HAVE MY BABY I HAVE MY BABY - and there the 4 of us sat crying hugging, laughing, celebrating THANKING OUR HEALING LORD

We then quickly finished the food we had ordered before and couldnt wait to get down to Dr De Jagers offices

We greated him with a huge smile and sat down and handed him the scans. Doctor De Jager, who was standing, opened the report, looked at them and had to sit down - he actually said SJOE - THIS IS MARVELOUS - NOTHING HAS LIT UP!

Doctor De Jager was extremely pleased as all of these results have followed such a positive pattern things are definitely pointing to Deqlan having no evidence of disease

His VMA /HMA ( urine tests for hormone produced by the tumor) are almost exactly within the normal numbers, his GSE is fantastic and all other HB and platelet counts normal!

WHAT MUSIC TO OUR EARS!

Doctor De Jager is of the opinion that Deqlan doesnt need surgery to remove the remainder of the tumor - he feels that the size of it, the calcifications in it ( from the scans) are pointing towards it being a ganglioneuroma - all matured ( dead) cancer cells. He says it could probably disapear on its on now - he does however still want to consult with our new surgeon to get his opinion. Its so small he couldnt even see it on the ct scans - a ultrasound sonar was done and this is where the could find it, after a lot of searching, and measured it to be 1.7cm by 2.6cm. It also doesnt seem to be on the adrenal gland but towards the area of the middle of the kidney? so perhaps it shrank down towards that area?

So we wait for his call to take all of the scans and all of the information we have on Deqlan to the surgeon Dr Beale some time this week and then we will see what he says and take the decision from there.....

If no surgery needed Doctor De Jager would like us back beginning Jan to do another ultrasound to check on the tumor - thank goodness we dont need to have any other type of scan at the moment - the ultrasound is much less stressful for our soldier

So now we wait and see and hope and pray for continued guidance and answers - please pray very hard for this to!

Thank you for all your calls, emails , sms, blog messages and prayers for our soldier - we have printed them all and going to paste all in his prayer book to one day realise the extent of lives he has touched and the army that loves him!
