DEQLAN GOT INTO THE CHOCOLATE CUPCAKES!
Sorry we have been so quiet - didn't get a chance to update the blog from Friday until today!
What a run around we had trying to get more information on the VAZIGAM injection to prevent Deqlan from getting chicken pox - no one could help us or confirm an answer for us. I basically got the information from the NB emailing group we are part of and from a wonderful oncologist at the Joburg Gen Hospital who said Deqlan should definitely have the injection. We even got in contact with the oncologist at Sloan hospital in New York to see what he said, and he too definitely recommended getting the injection - we just didnt want to do anything without getting the go ahead from Dr De Jager and he was still in India!!!!!
We then decided to go for it and then couldnt find someone to give the injection - no one wanted to chance it - eventually i tried a Paediatric nephrologist at Morningside clinic, that Mark had spoken to 5 months ago and he was more than willing to help us - we went through and he gave the injection and said we were definitely doing the right thing - chicken pox in little ones, especially with such low immune systems can be very severe. He then put a superman plaster on Deqlans leg and told us how brave he thought he was! He asked us to wait half an hour to ensure no reaction. While we were waiting the Doctor offered us tea and coffee and apologised that we had to travel so far to get the injection!!!!!!!! He was doing us the favor and i would have travelled 3 hours if i had to - this man was so wonderful! When it came to leave we asked where we could settle for the appointment and he said, no charge! Mom and I where flabbergasted at his generosity and kindess and it just goes to show there are still these people out there!! Deqlan thankfully had no reaction and we dont see any signs of chicken pox appearing.
I am still fine, luckily no more spots came up on me - we definitely got this in time, again, thank You Lord!

We received another parcel on Friday afternoon for our CHOC food packs from our friends Kathy and Vicky. We are so thankful for the botttles of tomato sauce, tubs of bovril and packets of noodles - thank you girls for your stunning contribution - we appreciate it more than youll ever know! Thank you so so very very much! You have been standing strong as fighters fighting in Deqlans army from day one, and we appreciate it so very much, thank you.
Meggies house is filling up each day and we are so overwhelmed everytime we look at all the goodies you have all contributed - wow - what a Christmas this is going to be for these families - we thank you again!
We are planning on collecting/receiving until the end of the week and then will have to decide on a date to pack the parcels. We shall definitely be in touch with those who would like to assist - after this week, we should have a more definite idea of what the next steps will be for Deqlans treatment and will be able to plan things in a more concrete fashion and finalize the packing date.
Deqlan spent a few hours with Nanna and Grandpa on Saturday night as Meggy and I attended Lisa's bachelorette party - it was a lot of fun and we wish Dale and Lisa all the best for their special day 10 November. May you have a life full of love and happiness, laughter and smiles and may your love be as endless as your wedding rings! Congrats Mr and Mrs Reid!
Marks Gran, so Deqlans great Gran, from Hermanus was up in Pretoria for a few days for her brothers 80th Birthday Celebrations. We were so pleased when Granny Rene and Great Gran came to visit us yesterday - it was the first time Great Gran was meeting our soldier Deqlan - he was not quite sure of the face at first, but soon gave Great Gran a great big smile! It was lovely to show Granny Rene and Great Gran all the photos from when Deqlan was born - it brought back so many wonderful memories and you cant believe Deqlan was once so tiny - he gets more beautiful every day ! We had a huge thunder storm while they were there so a lot of the visit was spent in the dark! Luckily power came back on just before 8pm so i could do Deqlans bottles and sterilising for the night.
Great Gran and Grany Rene came to meet Nanna and Meggy this morning and we all had a lovely cup of tea and good chat about how God does things in HIS WAY, in HIS TIME. We also got Granny Rene to write in Deqlans prayer book and Great Gran wrote on the first page of the second prayer book we have started - I would love to show you all one day how beautiful this book is. Meggy started it for us when Deqlan was diagnosed and Nanna has continued to take such wonderful care of it - it looks STUNNING thank you Mom and Megs - Deqlan is going to treasure this book always. Each sms/ email/ message on the blog/ photo/ card etc we recieve from all of you goes in this very special book!
Well, two more sleeps and the big day of the first MIBG scan is upon us - please continue to pray that Deqlan has had a complete response to his treatment and that nothing lights up on the scan. Please wear your camo and green on Wednesday and Thursday if you can - we loved hearing about your outfits and even recieved a few pics showing your support - wow - that made us feel amazing and so Blessed!
SACRED HEART OF JESUS WE PLACE OUR TRUST IN THEE, ALL FOR THEE OH LORD, OH MY JESUS ALL FOR THEE
